On October 29, 2024, AHK Egypt successfully hosted a pivotal roundtable discussion on renewable energy within the framework of technical and vocational education and training (TVET). Held at AHK Egypt’s premise, the roundtable brought together key stakeholders, including industry leaders, and academics, to address the growing need for skilled technicians in Egypt’s renewable energy and energy efficiency sectors.
The roundtable, organized in collaboration with GOPA Infra, featured insights from experts such as Andreas Dernbach, TEREEE Team Leader and Mahmoud Deab TEREEE Project Deputy Team Leader at GOPA Infra, who underscored the importance of establishing Centers of Competence (CoCs). These facilities are designed to deliver hands-on, industry-specific training to meet the demands of Egypt’s renewable energy landscape.
The discussion was enriched by the participation of Mohamed Taha Abdelhady, Chairman of GEVET; Ph.D. Adel Khalil, Professor of Energy Engineering at Cairo University; and Ph.D. Mohamed Elsobki, Former Executive Chairman of the New and Renewable Energy Authority (NREA). Industry leaders such as Emad Ghaly, CEO of SDSmena, and Mennen Elkalyoubi, VP of Business Development & Strategy at Siemens Industrial LLC, also shared valuable perspectives.
Key outcomes of the roundtable included plans to finalize the CoC curriculum, ensuring alignment with industry needs, and exploring public-private partnership (PPP) models to sustain CoC operations. The attendees also highlighted the need to elevate the perception of technical education in Egypt as a viable and prestigious career pathway.
The event concluded with a commitment to actionable next steps, including a follow-up stakeholder meeting on December 4, 2024, to refine partnership models and operational frameworks. This collaborative effort underscores AHK Egypt’s dedication to bridging education and industry to foster sustainable development and align with Egypt’s Vision 2030.
