German trade team plans key Saudi talks

JEDDAH: A delegation of German entrepreneurs and political representatives from the German Federal state of Baden-Wuerttemberg is arriving in Riyadh on Friday to develop business relations with the Kingdom.

The delegation, led by Nils Schmid, deputy prime minister and minister of finance and economics of Baden-Wuerttemberg, aims to hold talks with Saudi businessmen in Riyadh on a wide range of trade issues.

Andreas Hergenröther, the delegate of German industry and commerce in the Gulf region, said that CEOs from nine German firms have scheduled vital discussions with Saudi business groups.

The delegation comprises experts in the fields of medical engineering, electric engineering, mechanical engineering, chemical and plastic production, said the official.

The German state of Baden-Wuerttemberg has a long lasting story of success. About 18 percent of all German exports had their origin in Baden-Wuerttemberg, Hergenröther pointed out.

The companies of Baden-Wuerttemberg are supporting the Kingdom various ways, said the delegate. “We have a huge amount of foreign direct investment and cooperation.”

In addition to transfer of knowledge and technology that come along with German exports, there are also possibilities for Saudi companies to gain licenses to for new plants and facilities, said Hergenröther.
