JEDDAH: A number of new infrastructure projects are being carried out in Ras Al-Zour in the Eastern Province at a total cost of SR1.6 billion, according to a statement issued by the Royal Commission for Jubail and Yanbu.

Prince Saud bin Abdullah bin Thunayan, chairman of the Royal Commission, signed a contract on Tuesday with Saad Sahmi Al-Hajri Contracting Co. to carry out a number of new projects.

The new projects include construction of a road linking Ras Al-Zour with Abu Hadriya Road, a 23-km expressway from the west to the east of the city, construction of an intersection and three bridges over the railway track.

This is the eighth contract signed by the Royal Commission to provide infrastructure for the city after it took charge of the city on the basis of a Cabinet decision nearly two years ago.

The total value of seven projects implemented in the past is SR944 million.

They were for conducting geotechnical studies, making engineering designs, testing construction materials and supervision of the environment.

They also included construction of a road linking Ras Al-Zour with Khursaniya and Farie, which is an extension of the Dammam-Jubail Road, as well as preparing designs for Ras Al-Zour infrastructure and another contract for providing engineering consultancy services.
