MADINAH: The industrial city in Madinah is the most developed among the Kingdom's industrial cities. The number of factories has jumped in the industrial city from one three years ago to 140 now, 15 of which are already in operation, 56 under construction and 69 others being set up. The reason for the increasing interest in the industrial city is its site, which is located about 17 km from the Prophet's Mosque and on Al-Hijra (migration) road. The importance of Madinah and the large development that is taking place there is also a reason. The provision of the basic services in the industrial city has helped in attracting investors here.
Madinah Gov. Prince Abdul Aziz bin Majed, who has supported the idea of launching the "Made in Madinah Al-Munawwara" slogan for the marketing of products locally and globally, has supported the ongoing growth of the city.
Saudi Industrial Property Authority (MODON) has completed the first phase of its expansion plan. MODON is also currently working to link the industrial city with Al-Hijra road at a cost of SR114 million, and the project is expected to be completed within five months.
MODON has thus attracted 30 new industrial projects in the first six months of this year. Recently a meeting with a group of investors and businesswomen was held to discuss their demands for establishing industrial projects in different sectors including foodstuffs, iron crafts, chemical industries, and other industrial and service fields.
Madinah Industrial City is considered an active workplace for industrial, residential, commercial and service projects, infrastructure and highways. The highways link the industrial city with Al-Hijra Road. The major industries are foodstuffs, beverages, chemical and plastic products, and metal products, machinery and equipment. Magnesia Metal Co. Ltd. is among the most prominent establishments in operation.
