Scion specialises in research, science and technology development for the forestry industry, wood products and wood-derived materials. Based in our Rotorua campus, this is a great opportunity for a Senior Technician with skills in polymer processing to join the Materials, Engineering and Manufacturing Research Group. You will be part of a team that is involved in the development of biomaterials, polymer science, material characterisation, and other tasks across a broad range of research related projects. We are looking for a motivated individual who is energetic and willing to learn; someone who has an interest in these areas and who would like to build their knowledge and expertise to become a specialist. You will be mechanically minded with an aptitude to problem solve. This is a hands on and busy role, and will suit someone who is willing to get stuck in and give everything a go.
Responsibilities of this role include:
* Laboratory research and maintenance
* Contribute to research and development of new materials
* Carry out laboratory work in polymer processing (extrusion, compounding, reactive extrusion, injection moulding)
* Carry out mechanical testing and characterisation
* Laboratory maintenance and management as required
* Report writing and Documentation
* Produce analysis, technical notes, reports and documentation for both internal and external use
* Contribute to procurement processes
* Contribute to the development of SOPs
* Stakeholder Engagement
* Frequent internal and external engagement for the development of materials to meet the requirements of commercial clients
*Involvement in creation of service agreements (often including costing exercises)
You will need:
* A relevant tertiary qualification (ideally at MSc level) or equivalent experience in a similar technical role
